Writing Skill: The Art of Ask Question

Have you come across some blog that no comment? Yes, I come across. They are not beginner blogger and they have lots of RSS subscribers. Then why no comments? I think should be lack of art of asking question.

No question, no answer, no interaction. It’s important to ask question and listen to your reader. See what they think, how they do and why they agree or not. There are many types of question too. Use all type of questions wisely to meet the acquire target. There 3 type of questions that I can think of.

  • Ask for Opinion

This is normal asking technique. You write content at your own, but reader might have their own thinking. Ask for their opinion. When more interaction, more reader follow article. A simple question like “What do you say?”, “Do you agree with me?” will gain more comments.

  • Ask for Reasoning

Ask question to make reader rethink. Normally this kind of question try to reason with reader. It is useful in comparison, or introduce some new thinking. The question should not wait for input from reader. You have to provide answer for it. An example is “Don’t you think AhTim.com is user friendly?”. Absolutely, yes!

  • Ask to Critique

Do not simply use this technique to critique. The question might make your opinion stand out, but also might lose your reputation. Use only if you think it benefit your reader. If not, should be rational.

My two cents

No matter which question we use, the aim is interaction. Listen, Do, Improve! ;) Which type of question you use the most?
