Why People Blog?

Why I blogging? Why you blog? This is an interesting question. It’s an important question to know what you blogging for? At least, it would help to achieve the purpose or aim of your blogging.
I never put on this kind of survey to my reader. But I’ve read blogging survey result from Chris. It can be use as a reference for all of us. What can we learn from the pie chart?
Blogging Survey Result
The pie chart above was survey results input from total of 847 people. It was surprise me that almost 50% of the blogger write for pleasure. 35% write for own business and only 7% blogging to make money.
That means most of the blogger do not really keen to know how to make money online, do you? Of course the survey allows multiple selection. One may select multiple answers. Most of the people will have primary and secondary choice. From what I see the chart, it could be “at least” 50% of blogger choose “for pleasure” as their secondary choice. What do you say?
My two cents
So, how can we use the survey results? These blogger are your potential reader! I realized if you could get more blogger as your reader, then you have more chances to get link back. Then it definitely help to increase your PR!

I would put ‘for pleasure’ as my first choice and making money for my second. I guess I fall under the majority group.
Well, the other 50% of the population are taking advantage of the influence of blogs. To a certain extent, it is smart of them to do so. At the end of the day, everyone gains in some way be it money or fame.

Blogging serves a purpose for the writer no matter what the actual “reason” behind it.
1. Blogging is Free….
But more than that, Blogging “sets you free”. No matter what your rationale, there is something very cathartic about putting your thoughts down on “virtual paper”.
2. Cathartic and Satisfying for the writer. Some people Blog to just share their wonderful “things”. Near where I live, a young woman has a Blog about “Knitting”. Not just any kind of knitting. She knits “socks”. ALL kinds of socks.
I took a look at the Blog out of sheer curiosity and came away from the Sock Blog with a feeling of “You Go Girl”! She creates the coolest stuff I have ever seen. Who doesn’t want to share their passion?
I personally Blog for Business, not just to make money. We have a message to get out, in turn, that does bring us Clients. The most important thing is that we reach as many people in our area as possible so they know where to take advantage of free advertising resources to grow their business and keep it alive in a struggling economy.
In that respect, it’s definitely the “pleasure” of helping others that is behind our drive to Blog…money and SEO factors come second.
