Excel Error, Send or Don’t Send?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

My user phone me: “When I open my excel, it close by itself and ask send error report to Microsoft”. Should I send or don’t send?

She told me the file was ok in the morning. It has macro and some “vlookup” function inside. I thought it was the file problem, but it is not. Same error even I created a new file.

Send or Don’t Send?

Microsoft Excel Loads Blank File on Double Click

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

My colleague ask why her Microsoft Excel loads blank file after double click on the file. It is working well all the while until this morning. No problem on word, power point file, just excel file problem.

I tried open file using old method, File > Open. The file open without error. I clear temporary file then detect and repair excel but doesn’t help.

Set File Type Advance Option

Fortunately I didn’t reinstall Microsoft Office. Found the workaround on this error. Just reset the file type “Open” option. Follow these step by step:

• Open “My Computer”
• Click on Tools
• Click on Folder Options
• Click the Tab “File Types
• Scroll down till you find the Extension XLS
• Click the Advanced button at the bottom
• Highlight the Open and Click Edit
• Click Browse and find your Excel.exe which will be under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office in either Office10, Office11 or Office12
• Then after selecting your Excel.exe at the end of the “Application used to perform action:” line put /e “%1″
• After that uncheck the Use DDE box and click ok.
