Should I QUIT Blogging ?

Should I QUIT blogging? I ask myself twice today. Why I ask myself such question? Six months ago, New York Times said Blogging is Dangerous. And now,Wired Magazine say Twitter, Flickr, Facebook make blogs look so “2004″. The author said:

Thinking about launching your own blog? Here’s some friendly advice: Don’t. And if you’ve already got one, pull the plug.

Reasons to QUIT Blogging

In that article, the author give few reasons to quit blogging.

1) Impersonal – He mentioned the author of Weblogs network, Jason Calacanis annouced his retirement from blogging 3 months ago. In Jason’s blog, he said the main reason he quit was because blogging is impersonal. I look at this statement, it is not a problem at all. Blogger have right to turn on “private blog” then others can read your “personal” article. But for me, blog is not only write, it also a sharing media. If not for sharing, better write article in Word and save only on computer?

Another point, the author don’t know Jason is microblogging at twitter? (@jasoncalacanis) In fact I follow him at twitter for more than 6 months and he is quite active. As a result, Jason is NOT totally quit from blogging.

2) Google search result -He not satisfy with the Google search result. A post can quickly skyrocketing to the top of Google search result when blogging was young. Now no more. Well, I say Google has formula or algorithm to decide the ranking for search keyword (by PR, traffics, linkbacks). Unless he don’t want to use Google? Quite funny reason huh?

Not all blogger blogging for traffics. Some blog for fun, blog for hobby, blog for social. Does that mean they don’t have right to tell people their thoughts? No. So I doubt the author’s motive to stop people from blogging.

3) Text-based Websites aren’t buzzing anymore? Social multimedia sites like YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook have made publishing pics and video as easy as typing text. We have to admit technology is changing. The fact is “Knowledge is Power”. And most of the knowledge being transfer via text article. Do you see a popular Website or Blog without many text? I don’t think so.

4) Too easy to start a blog. Participant of non-techies have reduced the quality of the blogsphere? To certain extend, Yes. But what the business with others? No at all. They never force people to read their low quality post. It is just like can’t we own a car, if we are not a mechanic?

Should I QUIT Blogging?

When I ask this question in FaceBook, few online friends quickly reply and ask me don’t do that. Thanks for the encouragement and kindness. No, I never thought of quit blogging.

I just want to refresh my original purpose of blogging. I blog for my dream, to chase for full time blogging then have more time for my family and god’s work. Hope we help each other and don’t give up!

As conclusion, I doubt the motive of the Wired Magazine author to call on people quit blogging. I think we want all to quit blogging, so that he can show on top of Google search result for his name and keywords? ;) Don’t being trap into his words.

You’re doing quite well, so it’ll be wasted to quit like this.

Lack of blogging inspiration and motivation? Perhaps you can try to find juices from somewhere else. Tech stuffs can be quite limited and dull at times.

I don’t see a reason to quit blogging. Blogging is fun! And you get paid if you have lots of visitors! Happy Blogging!

Why bother what others think. As long as you are having fun.. that is all that matters.

It is commendable that you want to devote yourself to blogging in order to help in God’s work, among other reasons.

My blogging experience is limited. But I’ve been following your posts, found many good write-ups and learning from you. So please keep it up!

But I suggest anyone aspiring to be full-time bloggers to be aware of potential traps.

You know many some health hazards of blogging before. Not only that, let’s be aware of other downfalls also. Look at their health, their tummy :-) , their lifestyles. Night is day and day is night. Not all of them, but the lifestyle of some of them is not really what we want to end up into.

Also, there are many tech blogs out there. My suggestion, we don’t blindly follow any sifu or other bloggers. We don’t want to be just like a copy of OurSifuTechBlog.com. Have our own niche. Create our own blue ocean.

Just my two cents. Hope it help a bit. God bless.
