Profiles link building best practices

When something like link building using forum and free membership site member profiles becomes popular and hits the mainstream marketing crowd, it gets over-used and causes what is known as a decreasing rate of return for people.

Therefore, there needs to be some sort of best practices guide put out there for people who decide to add this link building method to their SEO strategy and portfolio.

Profiles link building best practices

Based on my research, there have been some common denominators for successful profiles link building:

#1 - Do not expect much from using the most popular links packets being sold because they cause a massive influx of new profiles creations of the new sites added to the lists people are getting.  When the new list of sites to create profiles on gets mailed out to people, they immediately get slammed with new membership creations, causing some alerts to go off from the site administrators.

Some site admins have threatened legal action against people who create member profiles just for the sake of getting backlinks, so you need to be careful here.

TIP: If you create profiles on sites that are on the widely used lists, wait a month before creating a profile there, so you’re not part of the surge of new profiles creations

#2 - Even if you’re NOT creating profiles on sites that are on the alert for new surges of membership and profiles creations, wait 4 days to 2 weeks after you register before creating a fleshed-out profile that includes backlinks to your sites.

Studies and research and feedback shows that waiting for a period of time between registration and filling out a profile has higher rates of success.

#3 - Use Real names in your profiles accounts not auto-generated names and emails.

The more real you appear to be, the better the chances of your profiles “sticking” and this means your links will stick too.

TIP: You will have even higher chances of having profiles sticking if you register with email addresses that are not the free ones like hotmail, gmail, yahoo, AOL etc… so set up a bunch of email addresses in your cpanel account to appear like more of a real and since registration and profile creation.

#4 - Be consistent and “promote the promoters”

Most link building services take a while to take effect, so you need to be consistent and persistent when doing any type of link building that is more about creating link volume than it is about creating high quality backlinks.

Once you’ve successfully created some profiles, ping them and social bookmark them to ensure that they get indexed sooner rather than later.  This is known as “promoting the promoters” because you’re sending links to sites and URLs that in turn link back to your desired sites.

I would like to thank Tim for allowing me to share some knowledge for his readers on this blog.
