DSLR is just an instrument to capture images. But what makes it more beautiful is your passion towards photography. If you do it with passion, becoming great photographer is just within your reach. :) Best regards.

Yes, I agree that you cannot learn if you do not have the tool. DLSR although expensive, is very rewarding especially when you see the outcome of your pictures. However, it takes lots of practice and patience to learn this gear! :)

True enough. I upgraded from an Olympus E510 to an E3 and the more elaborate focusing system messed up my first attempts more than it helped. That has changed now. As far as a first DSLR, I recommend the E520 (an E510 with a couple more features in the software and an extra anti-shake mode). This is a simple, somewhat compact DSLR. After I checked my hand held photos of Machu Picchu with my kit lens (40-150mm) zoomed to max, I was intensely satisfied with the E510. My E3 is aimed at the serious photographer. Both are a great value in their price range. Research Olympus and see why the lens are compact for the f-stop, clarity and zoom range. And that keeps the overall system price down. As far as I know, they are the only company that redesigned their lenses and camera from scratch, only for digital photography. Sure, you can easily use old 35mm film camera lenses on a digital Olympus and make use of the in-body anti-shake. But that doesn't mean a lens is optimized for digital photography. If money is no object, go get the most expensive Nikon or Canon they make. Otherwise check out Olympus as an option.
