iPhone 3G Official Launch by Maxis Malaysia

iPhone 3G is finally official landing on Malaysia by Maxis mobile. Very excited news for iPhone lover after waiting for one and half year huh?

Of course there are also many iPhone lovers can’t wait and bought the unofficial iPhone 3G months ago.

Maxis Come at Right Time

It has been almost one year I heard rumors about Maxis launching iPhone. This long awaiting gadget is too over emphasize until some people hate on it.

For me, it still a cool toy. Unbeatable huge multi-touch screen for Internet access with phone call function. Maxis launch at right time on this 2nd generation iPhone 3G.

With more build in features (GPS, 3G), it should attract more customer than its predecessor.

Maxis iPhone 3G Plan

The most cost effective for normal usage user is 12 month contract i-Value 1. $1900 (RM) for the iPhone 3G 8GB price and $100 (RM) monthly commitment. It is quite attractive by looking at this price.

Maxis require advance payment which I think is not necessary. Since subscriber already commit their usage monthly, why still pay advance?

Another thing I dislike is no unlimited data usage. Although not many people will commit for $375 (RM) monthly usage, it still a show stopper for heavy Internet user.

My Two Cents

Total cost of an iPhone 3G 8GB include basic voice and data plan is $3100 a year. The price is really sky high compare to AT&T iPhone 3G plan and Unofficial iPhone 3G.

AT&T iPhone 3G basic plan selling at $199 for iPhone 3G 8GB and $40 USD monthly commitment (2 years contract). Where unofficial iPhone 3G is still the cheapest, $2700 (RM) for an iPhone 3G 8GB I saw in mobile phone shop.

After calculation, I think many will still go for unofficial iPhone 3G. What do you think?

@Kenji: Yes, it should be the same (no MMS and video recording) until iPhone 3.0 release.

I personally feel that iPhone 3G is a blatant rip off. There are so many hidden charges, ya just need to google up and see the many detailed analysis of the plans.

Comparing plan with plan, I think Digi’s phone bundle plans are more “reasonable”. A simple survey on the street price for the phones available, you can see that Digi isn’t trying that hard/obvious to rip you off. The phones are actually cheaper when you opt for the correct plan.

For my case, the SE W760i does go cheaper as my average monthly usage fee is between RM50 to RM600. I get almost RM150 off (comparing to its RPP) and just slightly above the street price (about RM10).

That sounds more like a deal to me compared to iValue’s.

@Jason: Still lots of ppl can’t resist the beauty of iPhone.
