How To Transfer iTunes Library?

I have transferred iTunes library from PC to Macbook to make use of the loud and clear speaker. The transfer process was not difficult but takes time during copy gigs of data.

Before transfer iTunes library, I first transfer actual music and application files to Macbook via network. You may choose to burn CDs, DVDs, thumb drive or portable hard drive too. Once copied over, you are now ready for the migration.

  1. Export the source iTunes library as XML file (File > Library > Export Library)
  2. Edit XML file to replace the file paths (Point the location path to DVDs, Thumb Drive or Portable Hard Drive)
  3. Tick “Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library” under iTunes Preferences > Advance.
  4. Import to Library (File > Library > Import Playlist)

Since I’ll using Macbook more often, the iPod touch should sync here instead of PC. Don’t forget to Authorize your new computer and copy over “Mobile Applications” under iTunes folder too. I’m now fully on Mac OS already. :)
