Healthy Blogger: Blood Test
Posted in Life Log | By AhTim @ February 25th, 2009
I wish to write this post weeks ago but too busy. I get married for 5 years but never do blood test before. What happen if got serious sickness pass on next generation? Too dangerous.
As a healthy blogger, blood test shouldn’t skip from our schedule once a year. My wife and I decided to do blood test years ago but scared. Until last 2 weeks, we really take serious on this matter and head towards BP Healthcare Laboratory.
Blood Test Experience
We choose BP Healthcare Lab due to 2 reasons: Have doctor in the lab to explain test results and looks more professional. This is first time blood test in my life. I really scare the needle poke into my arm to draw blood.
I heard it is like ant bite, but is terror to see my blood come out from body into the tube. I decided to not see the draw blood process. Fortunately, the nurse complete the whole process within seconds and set me free. Huh~
Draw blood is easier for thin man, blood nerve more obvious. My friend who is fatter take 2-3 pokes before draw blood successfully. Perhaps the cholesterol is too thick to cover the nerve?
Body Check Up
We not only do blood test. We actually took blood test + cancer markers + lung/heart function + ultra sound. Total of $400 bucks one person. Two for $800 bucks. We hope this full check help to diagnose more details.
My wife and my blood separate into 3 test tubes.

The heartbeat checking system

Ultra sound on inner organs. Is it looks like a baby inside? Oh no..I got baby? No. It is my liver ok. Nothing found inside, very good.

I go back to collect my health report after a week.

Bad news. My cholesterol is slightly higher than normal. Total cholesterol at 4.7, normal should under 4.5.

Another bad news. Suspect infected by disease “minor thalassemia“! Doctor suggest to take another blood test named “Hb Electrophoresis” to get more accurate diagnosis: minor Alpha Thalassemia or minor Beta Thalassemia.

My two cents
The blood test is not terror as what I thought. Happy to know that my wife is healthier than me. Just need to take note on bone density, drink more high calcium milk. So she has no problem to take care me. Haha.
For me, I have to exercise more and eat less cholesterol food.If you don’t know, Thalassemia is an inherited disease. The deficient haemoglobin genetic cause red blood cell easy to break. Hence our body have to build more to cover. Normal amount should be 6.0, but I got 6.5 total RBC in my case.
According to the doctor, minor thalassemia is quite common. Not a big deal as long as it don’t get worst. Should take more rest and take folic asid + B12 to relieve body burden. Bean milk contain folic asid and other supplement could help too.
Have you did your blood test for this year? How is the result? Wish you maintain your health for the whole year.
Share and Enjoy

I have just been told I have slightly higher cholesterol than I should have. I’vebeen looking at healthy, natural ways to bring it down rather than pills from the doctor. Good luck.
