Good news. I have upgrade my Garmin mobile xt v4 to Garmin Mobile XT v5 freely without a penny.
How to get FREE upgrade?
I’m going to tell you in a little while in this post. And of course it is legal, NOT illegal.
What you need is download Mobile XT v5 from official Garmin website. The latest version 5.00.40 (~14.20mb) direct upgrade previous version. It don’t work for new installation.
Once downloaded, plug in your GPS device (Nokia N82 in my case) then run setup. Follow on screen instruction and finish in few clicks.
That’s it. It work 100% perfect for me, without need to reconfigure any setting. All license key, favorite locations are still in. For safety purpose, you may want to save your maps, or make a full copy of your Garmin application folder.
Garmin Mobile XT v5 Features
Most significant upgrade is the User Interface and new Garmin Online feature. As you can see on right, the latest version is more to Nuvi-like feel. Definitely is easier to use than previous version with the button allocation and size.
The Garmin Online button is on top right bar. You need online to utilize the features, either 3G, GPRS, or Wifi. Garmin Online include features of Google Local Search, Panaramio photos, Flight Status, and more. Anyway I don’t use this.
The Where to? go menu is easier to access now with its square icons in 2 columns.
Another useful upgrade is the Speed Limit display in the View Map. I hope Garmin upgrade it to Speed Limit Alert with customized speed. You know especially when we drive long hours, it is good to have such reminder along the way.
My Two Cents
Practical on the road? I have use it and fully depend on it during my last trip to Terengganu and Kuantan. I admit this is old post But it is still early to get your free upgrade to Mobile XT v5.
