Avast is now one of the most popular free antivirus software. The version 5.0 has redesigned the user interface, improves virus detection engine and potentially unwanted programs detection.
The Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 includes comprehensive protection with features below:
- Antivirus and anti-spyware engine
- Real time anti-rootkit protection
- avast! Community IQ
- Code emulator
- Heuristics engine
- Potentially unwanted programs detection
- avast! Intelligent Scanner
- Behavior Shield
- Smart virus definition updates
- Fast application of updates
- Silent/Gaming Mode
- Multi-threaded scanning optimization
- File System Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, P2P Shield, IM Shield, Network Shield
The Avast! Free edition works with Windows 2000 to Windows 7. Since it consumed less CPU power, we could expect faster performance while scanning for viruses.
Consider it is free, the features are impressive. We really don’t lose anything by using it. I should upgrade my home PC to avast! 5 as soon as possible. But no worry on Macbook at all!
Download free avast here.

Avast is really good anti-virus but it consumes more ram comparing to the other anti-virus. But I use it for the last 8 months
