Create Multi User Profiles in Firefox
Posted in How To, Web Browser | By AhTim @ June 15th, 2008
Since my wife Chrissie enter into the blog world, now we have total of 3 blogs for all my family members. That is myself here, my wife and my baby.
Since I only have one desktop computer at home (my online earning still not able to buy me one laptop), we got problem to share the same web browser – Firefox. We all know the advantage of Firefox, so do not compromise to use other web browsers.
Especially when we need to leave some account logon such as Flickr, MyBlogLog, and Twitter, so that we could use on the spot when we need it. Its really not practical for us to login and out every time.
Create Multi User Profiles
Create multi user profiles can resolve this problem. So far, as I know Firefox can be set. Not sure if others web browser like IE able to do that? Anyway, we are not going to use IE
Actually, its quite simple to create multi user profiles with few easy steps.
1. Create User Profiles
Goto Start > Run > type in “firefox -profilemanager“. A profile manager window pop up. Create or rename your profile to the name you want. Make sure the checkbox “Don’t ask at startup” has been tick.

2. Create Shortcut for Multi Users
After create profiles, you have to create different shortcuts for different user. Right click the Firefox shortcut, click Properties and insert codes below to determine the profile target. I put AhTim as my profile name in this case. Repeat this step to target other profiles.
-P PROFILENAME -no-remote

My two cents
I use this multi user profiles for multi family members purpose. But you also can use this features for web development purpose or plugins testing profile.
Enjoy surfing with Firefox!
