Keyword is the search term that people use to search for online content. Your content can be reach more readers if use the correct and commonly use keyword.

Keyword Research tools can help you discover topics that people are currently searching for that are related to your expertise. Know what your potential reader want then provide articles that answer the readers’ questions in their search query.

Wordtracker: generates keywords for search engine and website optimization.

Keyword Discovery: compiles keyword search stats from worldwide search engines.

Goodkeywords: freeware that queries a number of popular search engines to identify good keywords.

Google Alerts: email updates of the latest relevant Google results based on your choice of topic or keywords.

Google Suggest: as you type in a keyword, Google offers suggestions and shows the number of results.

Each keyword research tool has its own good and bad. Try to get results from the tools will give your better idea.

My Two Cents

Don’t always use the most popular terms as you have to compete with hundreds or thousands of high traffic website. Pick a lower keyword (less competition) to compete at beginning stage.

Let me know in the comment if I left out any of your favorite keyword research tool?

Related Posts — This plugin helps improve your search engine optimization by allowing search engines to index older blog content more easily. It automatically searches through your blog post database, identifies posts with similar subject matter and keywords, and inserts a link to them.

Comment Relish — Once you have a WordPress blog set up, make sure that you are listening to what your bloggers have to say. Not only is replying to blog posts important for SEO but it can also be a useful tool for gathering feedback for user interface web design practices. The comment relish plugin automatically sends an email to bloggers who posted on your blog for the first time thanking them and filling them in about your current events. This is a great way to keep site visitors engaged without being time-consuming.

WordTwit — Microblogging is the best way to reach a wide audience of people who share relevant interests. Since Twitter has blown up, it’s become a great marketing platform—people are constantly engaging with it. The WordTwit WordPress plugin uses the twitter API to send out a link to your published blog post in an automatic tweet. This can attract a lot of twitter-ers to your new post.

SEO Friendly Images — By the time you have written detailed descriptions for your WordPress site’s title tags, metatags, and keyword tags, you may not have the time or the energy to enter image alt tags. SEO Friendly Images is a plugin that can automatically add alt and title tags to images alt and title tag. This will optimize your images without much effort.

Robots Meta — This plugin will prevent search engines from indexing your search results pages, login, register, admin pages, etc by inserting a nofollow tag. Doing so will let your more relevant pages receive more “link juice” from search engine crawlers.

SEO Slug —To further optimize your blog post titles for search engine optimization; install the SEO Slug plugin. This plugin automatically improves your keyword strings by removing words that are conjunctions in sentences like “as” and “if” to allow crawlers to more readily read the main content keywords as a fluid string.

Directories are almost as old as the Web, and have been used with varying success for link building by Web site owners and SEO firms for years. Here are some tips to keep you from wasting your money and improve your site’s SEO.

#1 – Only join paid directories that charge for review, not inclusion

When you are deciding which directories to join, check out their terms of service. If they explicitly say that they do not guarantee the inclusion of your site or give a refund if it is rejected, then the site is one that is worth joining.

In Google’s eyes, if a directory’s revenue stream is not dependent on every site that is submitted being included; they are more likely to be selective about which sites actually make it into their directory. Therefore, the directory is trustworthy and PageRank can be passed from its links.

#2 – Check for nofollow in their page links

Make sure that the directory is not trying to hog all of its PageRank and is not using rel=nofollow in outbound links. Believe it or not, many directories do use nofollow and you could be buying a link that is worthless for SEO.

Also, check the head section of the Web site to make sure that a “robots” meta tag is not included that says “nofollow.” Some directories may use redirects for tracking purposes; verify that they are SEO friendly with a 301 redirect checker.

#3 – Check the cache date

Sites that are important to Google are crawled regularly. Seeing how often a site is cached can give you an idea of how regularly Google crawls and indexes the directory.

Do a search in Google for the name of the directory, look for the link under the listing that says “cached.” If the directory has not been cached in more than a month, something is wrong, and you should probably spend your money somewhere else.

#4 – Track the indexation rate

This takes time, but is very effective and is one of the strongest indicators of which directories are the best.

Do a search in Google to see how many pages Google has indexed for a directory. In the top right hand corner, you will see how many pages are indexed from the site. This is a search for botw.org:

Results 1 – 10 of about 8,790,000 from botw.org

Botw.org has 8,790,000 indexed pages.

I take this data and enter it into a spreadsheet. In a month, I will do the search again to see how many pages are now indexed. If the number of pages indexed decreases, I will not join the directory. It would indicate Google is dropping their pages, and my link would not even count.

#5 – Check site authority

Although many people look at the PageRank that Google provides in the little green bar, it has been long known that Google does not reveal a site’s true PageRank. So don’t just rely on PR to determine authority.

My favorite authority metric is backlinks. The more backlinks a directory has, the more valuable a link from the directory is going to be. You can use Yahoo!’s site explorer to see backlinks. Alexa ranking and domain age are also good indicators of a directory’s authority.

#6 – Build directory links slowly

Don’t join 100 directories in a month. For a new site, I may join five directories the first month, seven the second month, and ten the third month. Slowly build up over time, so that your inbound links appear more natural.

#7 – Find directories that allow deep links

One of the problems with directory link building is that most directories only allow links to the home page. By finding directories that allow deep linking to your site, you can help ensure that subpages are getting their share of link authority.

Link building with directories can be very effective if time is taken to ensure that you only join quality directories. Over time, the PageRank built up from a few directories can be powerful and help you reach your SEO goals.

Article Marketing is one of the best known techniques for building links to a site. It’s a labor intensive task and one that is dwindled in power over the past few years. But there is still value in article marketing, especially if you add a little twist to it.

One thing most sites have in common is they always need good content and if you are the one to provide it, the result can be a lot of links back to your site. But how do you find these sites or know what they are looking for ?

Well first you need to find popular topics to write about in your niche. I am going to show you the quick method of doing this, which costs money. Then a longer version, that is free.

Market Samurai – Paid Option

Market Samurai is a pretty good tool for market research. One of the cool features is the “Find Content” part. Based on a keyword it will search a number of web properties for related content. In the below, I have searched popular article directories for content related to “dog training”.

In the information provided it shows how many times an article has been republished. This means it has been picked up by other sites and republished- pretty valuable information.

EzineArticles – Free Option

If I am looking for some quick ideas, I simply go my niche in EzineArticles and look at the most viewed EzineArticles in that category.

I would then start running some different searches for these on Google:

The above was searching for the article title in page titles and authors name. You can play around with this a little. It will not only provide you with information on what content is popular but also give you a list of sites that need and republish this content – pretty valuable information.

After this process you should have a list of articles to write (or outsource to be written). Once you have the content written, create Google alerts to track each article. Simply include the whole article title in the “search terms” and deliver to your Google reader. You then wait to see where your content gets picked up. If you find it one some good sites, approach them and offer unique content in exchange for links back to your site.

This method can not only build some great partnerships but can generate a lot of great links.

When something like link building using forum and free membership site member profiles becomes popular and hits the mainstream marketing crowd, it gets over-used and causes what is known as a decreasing rate of return for people.

Therefore, there needs to be some sort of best practices guide put out there for people who decide to add this link building method to their SEO strategy and portfolio.

Profiles link building best practices

Based on my research, there have been some common denominators for successful profiles link building:

#1 - Do not expect much from using the most popular links packets being sold because they cause a massive influx of new profiles creations of the new sites added to the lists people are getting. When the new list of sites to create profiles on gets mailed out to people, they immediately get slammed with new membership creations, causing some alerts to go off from the site administrators.

Some site admins have threatened legal action against people who create member profiles just for the sake of getting backlinks, so you need to be careful here.

TIP: If you create profiles on sites that are on the widely used lists, wait a month before creating a profile there, so you’re not part of the surge of new profiles creations

#2 - Even if you’re NOT creating profiles on sites that are on the alert for new surges of membership and profiles creations, wait 4 days to 2 weeks after you register before creating a fleshed-out profile that includes backlinks to your sites.

Studies and research and feedback shows that waiting for a period of time between registration and filling out a profile has higher rates of success.

#3 - Use Real names in your profiles accounts not auto-generated names and emails.

The more real you appear to be, the better the chances of your profiles “sticking” and this means your links will stick too.

TIP: You will have even higher chances of having profiles sticking if you register with email addresses that are not the free ones like hotmail, gmail, yahoo, AOL etc… so set up a bunch of email addresses in your cpanel account to appear like more of a real and since registration and profile creation.

#4 - Be consistent and “promote the promoters”

Most link building services take a while to take effect, so you need to be consistent and persistent when doing any type of link building that is more about creating link volume than it is about creating high quality backlinks.

Once you’ve successfully created some profiles, ping them and social bookmark them to ensure that they get indexed sooner rather than later. This is known as “promoting the promoters” because you’re sending links to sites and URLs that in turn link back to your desired sites.

I would like to thank Tim for allowing me to share some knowledge for his readers on this blog.

Some of the recent rage for the last year or so has been profiles link building; the practice of creating member profiles on high PageRank, DoFollow sites.

A lot of people swear by this method

A lot of people say it’s not worth the effort and doesn’t work

Some say that remaining old school is the way to go.

I did some research on a marketing forum where a lot of these links packets are being sold and the following is what I came up with (with the help of the people who responded to the thread) for Profiles Link Building Best Practices.

What is Profiles link building?

It’s the practice of getting free memberships at certain types of sites, then creating profiles on them. When you create a “fleshed-out” profile or just a bare bones profile you get to place a URL or two in these “bios” /profiles.

However you only want to target high Page Rank site for profiles link building that have DoFollow attributes enabled, otherwise the whole exercise is pretty much worthless.

Why should it work well?

Because these are all high Page Rank sites, the profiles created there tend to get some Pagerank too (after a while).

And since these profiles pages won’t have many outgoing links on them, their link juice “could” be better than getting a link for a PageRank 3 url with 100 outbound links dividing and dividing the overall PageRank and juice which pretty much lessens the “link juice of a page”.

If this sounds like SEO “gibberish” let me put it another way….

Let’s say you use some software to find a Dofollow blog where the comments are actually DoFollow-’ed.

You get to the blog or url and see that it’s a Pagerank 3 URL, sweet!

The Pagerank isn’t even on the main site alone but on the actual URL you’re commenting on!

But that’s smoke and mirrors, because PageRank acquired for a URL doesn’t always translate into link juice passed on down to your urls in your comments or even the URLs mentioned in the content of your articles on site (even if do-followed)

Therefore, the less outbound links a specific URL has on it the better chance it has of passing some decent link juice along with it.

Since these profiles URLs won’t be receiving too many comments they are assured of not bleeding Pagerank and link juice.

So that’s why this method should work well, and some people say its worthless others say it’s worthwhile etc…
