I bought this lomo camera from AEON Jusco SOJO shop with just RM30 (USD $10).

This is first time when my Nikon D90 DSLR meet 35mm lomo camera with underwater housing! ;) Huge black meet small white.

Since this is the first time take photo with toy camera, want to get a ISO 400 with 12 exp but don’t have. At last get Kodak ISO 200 with 36 exp in just RM10.

It is not quite easy to fix the film. I thought pull more the better but I was wrong. Most importantly the film hole must hook steadily on the roller then everything will become smooth.

Immediately shoot a few photos after fix in film in 35mm toy camera. Need to swipe the roller till it stop after each shoot is fun! Yes, first time shoot photo without a preview. I feel more confident with it.

Now exciting and wait until finish up 36 exposures. Every exposure is precious, must shoot wisely! ;)

DSLR Means Better Photo ?

No. If you think DSLR can make your photography more beautiful, then you’re Wrong! My first few days photo with DSLR even worst than a compact camera.

You have to understand the logic and control behind DSLR gear first. Or you just can’t shoot a photo that you want.

It is my first DSLR camera. :)

Why I choose Nikon D60? Some bloggers advise me not to do that because entry model no AF motor. Well, budget is main constrain. And I love the color and clearness of AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens. That’s why I don’t choose Canon 1000D.

Sad thing is I haven’t receive the DSLR. The camera stay with my brother in-law because I ask him to buy in Penang. It is cheaper there, and hard to see it in stock during my survey.

Lelong.com.my selling at around $2200+ for complete set (including bag, UV filter, tripod) and I only pay for $1999 (RM). And it is fully sponsored by blog earnings.

These 4 basic terms always confuse me. Will try to explain in simple way I understand.

By understand the 4 basic elements, you may snap image with effect you want easily. They are: Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and White balance.

4 Basic Photography Elements

Aperture is the size of the opening in the lens when taking a photo. Shutter Speed is the amount of time the shutter open. ISO refer to the measure of a camera sensor’s sensitivity to light. Lastly, white balance is feature to get the colors in your images as accurate as possible.

To illustrate, these elements are represented by a situation where a man wearing sunglasses looking out from a window. Aperture is like the size of the window. The wider you open, more light go into the room.

Shutter speed is the amount of time you open and close the window. The longer you open, more lights go in. ISO is like your eyes. You see darker (low ISO) with sun glasses. When you take off sun glasses, you see brighter (high ISO).

Since you’re in the room, there might be light bulb. Normal bulb produce yellowish color to the objects in the room. Florescent light produce bluish color. White balance is camera feature where you can adjust the object color back to normal, or more accurate color in the photo.

My Two Cents

What is the best combination? There is nothing as such “best” settings. Important is which settings able to capture the photo with effects you want.

Now the question is how to make use of these elements to shoot a nice photo? Experiment yourself. We might discuss this topic later.

Nikon already announce new toy D5000 early last week. Long awaiting DSLR for Nikon fans since months ago, after Canon announce 500D.

Am planning to get a DSLR for photography interest. I prefer Nikon because its sharpness and outlook design. Its previous beginner model D60 is not bad, but only 3 point. This model is what I waiting for, but out of my budget. So how to make choice?

Nikon D5000 Key Features

Nikon D5000 is the model to compete with Canon 500D. Move on to D5000 key features before decision.

  • 12.3 MP CMOS sensor (D60: 10.2 MP CCD)
  • Vari-angle 2.7″ LCD screen
  • 11 point AF system
  • Live View
  • 720p HD quality movie mode

These features are not in D60. In fact, it inherit some bonus features from D90. It is now available at Amazon for $850 (Nikon D5000 with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens)

Of course, its main selling point is the flip out LCD screen. With the screen, photographer can easily shoot photo in difficult angle. And share with friend with just a twist.

Will I buy D5000? I hope so. But heard it cost at least $3000 (RM) which is too pricey for me. Believe to reach Malaysia within a month or two. I would rather keep an eye on D60 and purchase when price drop.

ShutterStock provided an opportunity for photographers to make money. It could make a living if you are good photographer.

Photo Can Make Money

The website setup flat rate for beginner at $0.25 (25 cents) per download. A photo can earn unlimited of 25 cents as long as people download it down. Once reach total payout of $500, you will will increase to $0.33 (33 cents) per download. Subsequently increase for up to $0.38 (maximum) per download.

If your image are downloaded 1000 times over the month, you will receive $250 for that month on the photo itself! Good money huh?

Of course not everybody can download your photo. Only paid members (buyer) can download your photo. The market is already there, all depend how you grab your piece of cake.

Ready to Shoot

Prepare yourself before start to make money with photo. Not everybody can simply join as photo submitter.

Other than register as photographer, you will need these items too:

  1. Scan or snap your passport in clear JPEG format (To prove your identity, need during registration)
  2. Your 10 best photos submit for approval.

If more than 3 photo rejected, you will need to wait another 1 month to reapply as submitter.

There are nothing easy money in this world. You can take a look on most popular images. All compose in professional way, you know how much effort they have put in a photo?

Practice more before submit your best image production. And prepare to get rejection! ;)

Suggestions for Improvement

Some suggestion for eoe Online improvement. At first, I have no idea where and how to start purchase e-Print? Perhaps the Register button too small. It took me some time to figure out the first step. Believe larger and clearer Register and Login button will help improve customer first impression on ease of use.

Easy Upload do not support Firefox. This is most lacking important feature. Firefox is so popular now, so please look into it. Lastly, why registration need Identity Card number? Most people tend to not reveal their confidential information online.

Hope these suggestions help improve our online photo printing experience. Because I’m too lazy to send my pen drive to photo shop.

Glad to know eoe Online expand their business model from traditional photo printing outlet to online business. I believe this must be good direction in long run.
