But actually many Mac fans complaining same problem too.

Yea..see our Mac Lion is like the sleepy Lion below. Feel so tired and run a lot slower than Snow Leopard! Shouldn’t we have to admit the fact that Lion run slower than Leopard?

This is another reason why I still haven’t upgrade my Macbook Snow Leopard. See the comparison datasheet below then you know why Snow Leopard run faster in overall.

Of course there are some good improvement on Safari browsing speed. But overall I feel some lagging on apps launching and switching! It is annoying to wait for 1-2 seconds before could continue to do more things.

Will you feel the slowness without benchmark data above? Yes. Your mouse or keyboard input become unresponsive for 1-2 seconds some time, especially  when switching between apps! Sad to hear my wife say its a lousy OS compare to Windows 7! :( I don’t believe it until I’ve try it.

Well, I’ve upgraded the Mac mini 2011 to 8GB like my Macbook 2009. And hoping Apple to release the fixes to make our Lion as the King of Mac OS very soon! :)

PS: Anyone ‘feel’ the slowness of OS X Lion please share your experience in comment below.

The smallest desktop – Apple Mac mini 2011 as below. What you see is what you get, no extra no less. Not even a keyboard or mouse!

But its tiny size with aluminum body is pretty Amazing!

Yes, I have no choice to buy a normal windows keyboard and mouse in combo pack. The Apple magic mouse and wireless keyboard are too expensive for me!

The height is so short at 1.4 inches till you almost can’t see it exist below my computer table :) So sad, this time Mac mini 2011 has no DVD drive. But at least can access DVD optical disk via remote disk on my Macbook.

Am still convincing my wife to train the OS X Lion as her main operating system. It’s really not easy for non tech user switch to MAC! Sometime I’m headache when she keep complaining and ask where is this and that functions? @@

I believe she is using Lion for more than 95% of the time. For those windows-only-compatible software (美图秀秀,Excel 2007), I have no choice to install Virtual Box to run Windows 7.

My Two Cents

The performance little bit lag when run Virtual box, I’m considering to upgrade the memory to 8GB. Thanks for the easy memory upgrade twistable cover.

I have no chance to try out the new port standard thunderbolt which run two 10Gbps channels for data transfer. Anyone tried out? Please share your experience with me in comment :)

So what topic to talk about? Of course is the so-called “Most Advanced Operating System” in the Universe, not only World – The Mac OS X Lion!

I’m using Mac OS X Leopard for nearly 2 years and very satisfied with it. Frankly I seldom shutdown my Mac, except apply update and low battery. Other than that, I may shutdown or restart once every 2-3 months to refresh the system. From here you know how stable is this Leopard OS. :)

Mac App Store is now selling OS X Lion (The new desktop King) at $29.99. Now the question is it worth for the upgrade?

Look at what’s new in OS X Lion, main update that may applicable to me are:

  • Multi-touch Gestures – Just a few more additional touches, not that great.
  • Full-screen Apps – Quite troublesome for me as a multi-tasking user
  • Mission Control - An enhance version of Dashboard. Not necessary for daily use.
  • Resume – A good function that ease your life IF restart computer which I seldom do that.

This time OS X Lion didn’t mention a word on performance. I’ll consider the upgrade if it is included.

As a conclusion, the upgrade doesn’t help much on my daily use. For me, it is not worth upgrade. How about you? What is the reason you upgrade to OS X Lion?

I have decided to give up VirtualBox to run Windows 7. It is too slow for my Ms Access application and other third party software.

The best way to resolve the slow performance is install Windows 7 on its native Windows environment by using Boot Camp for Mac OS. Boot Camp is a build in utility in Mac, for Windows user.

How To Setup Boot Camp?

Boot Camp helps to create Windows partition easily. Go to Applications > Utilities > Boot Camp Assistant, create the Windows partition size you want. 15GB is enough for my 3rd party software + Windows 7.

Once created the partition, restart your Mac and insert Windows installation DVD. Follow on screen instruction to format the newly created Windows partition. You have to be extra careful when format partition. ONLY format the ‘Bootcamp’ partition that you have created. By deleting wrong partition could cause your Mac OS and data gone!

The Windows 7 took sometime to install. Go for a break while waiting. Once completed, restart your Macbook (iMac, MacBook Pro, whatever) while holding ‘Option‘ key when machine starting up. It should prompt 2 choice: Mac OS or Windows. Select Windows to boot up.

Opps..no drivers? Insert Install Mac OS DVD and setup all drivers. Cool! Now Windows 7 run on my awesome Macbook.

My Two Cents

The Boot Camp driver for Broadcom wireless adapter just don’t work. You need to manual setup the Broadcom driver for WinXP in order for it to work.

Multi-touch feature also not fully function in Windows 7. Hope to get the latest driver update, I miss the 3 and 4 fingers swipe. :(

We never convert our music to WMA music format, but somehow downloaded music still have. iTunes Mac not able to add WMA files into music library (maybe copyright issue?). Anyway there is a workaround to bypass the music format compatibility issue:

  1. Install Flip4Mac Windows Media component, then your QuickTime manage to play WMA files.
  2. Open WMA music file in QuickTime, then click File > Save As > Movie format.
  3. Add converted music in .MOV format into iTunes Library.

You can now play WMA music from iTunes library. But remember to keep the original WMA files within the same folder, because .MOV files still point to them. To fully convert the musics into recognizable audio files, just one more conversion step to go.

Select the WMA songs in iTunes, go to Advance Menu, click Create AAC version. Your musics are now fully converted. Go ahead sync with iPhone or iPod to enjoy the hard downloaded music anywhere anytime! :)
