Can’t wait to share my interview with him, my last interview with Pro-Blogger was long time ago since September 2008.

Edward Khoo is a talented young writer. He manage to achieve full-time blogger in his early age of 21st after blogging for 2 years. Also, he contributed guest articles about Blogging for Sin Chew Jit Poh , one of the famous Chinese Newspaper.

1. How long have you been blogging here?
Edward: Been reading news regarding blogging since 2006 but started to have my own blog in 2007.
AhTim: I started this blog in 2007 too, but sad can’t get that much traffic. I have come to a bottle neck.

2. What is the biggest difference before and after enter to the blogging world?

Edward: Before: Whole day in front of pc playing games. After: Whole day in front of pc on Twitter & reading other blogs
AhTim: Looks like no difference for me. But more valuable. :)

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?
Edward: Guest post, a really effective way in building relationship & getting more referral traffic
AhTim: Oh, have to do Guest post more frequent.

4. What topic your reader like the most?
Edward: Tech & blogging related topics
AhTim: Tech news and tips still the most required content on the Internet.

5. When and How many hours you use for blogging in a day?
Edward: Probably 1-2 hours, spend the rest of the day reading other blogs & websites
AhTim: That is short working hour. Like a dream for man who work 10 hours a day.

6. Any advice for people who want to be pro-blogger?
Edward: If content is king, then marketing is the queen; Self promoting if done correctly can give you plenty of exposure & targeted traffic.
AhTim: Best content is nothing if no one reading it. We need to learn more marketing techniques.

My Two Cents

Edward implemented marketing strategies successfully, which most of us lack of. His experience and story encourage us a lot to chase the dream a success no matter how hard. Don’t you?

Recently found Malaysia has a few crouching tiger and hidden dragon. Today I would like to interview with one of the “hidden dragon” (low profile) Pro-blogger – Calvin Ngan. He too shy to show real photo, only have hand sketch picture.

Mirage Studio 7 is Calvin’s very first blog, an architecture blog.  Calvin told me he manage to make a living online after one year blogging. Too fast huh? He is now a full time blogger.

Let’s see his tips for success in make money online. Perhaps these interesting answer help to improve your blog.

1. How long have you been blogging here?
Calvin: Almost Four years.
Tim: Not long time, but a good example and encouragement for us.

2. What is the biggest difference before and after enter to the blogging world?
Calvin: Fame I suppose, I got to know lots of people from different parts of the world, mainly those studying architecture.
Tim: I have to admit blogging make us new friends all over the world. Learn from others make us grow faster too.

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?
Calvin: For instant, instead of writing an article titled ‘iPhone OS 3.0 features’ like most bloggers would, it would be better to structure a simple title – ‘Download iPhone OS 3.0 from Torrent’. Don’t get me wrong, am not encouraging you to promote pirated software; it can be news of the latest OS leaked by hackers and now available on torrent. The key is to ‘write what the readers what’, not ‘what you want to write’.
a. Think different!
b. Creative use of Keywords
c. Apply the Blue Ocean Strategy
Tim: This is new thing for me to learn. The title is tricky huh? ;)

4. What topic your readers like the most?
Calvin: My blog is mainly about architecture, within the architecture category, I find the most popular post are none other than those making fun of architecture. Tutorials is another favorite topic, readers simply love it.
Tim: You have targeted at right audiences.

5. When and how many hours you use for blogging in a day?
Calvin: Usually an hour to two. Sometimes four, it really depends on my schedule.
Tim: The freedom of working hours. We want it!

6. Any advice for people who want to be pro-blogger?
Calvin: For those that owns a blog and has been blogging for 3 to 5 months:

忍字心上一把刀，不忍刀下刺心窝

The Chinese phrases mean “endurance”. Don’t give up easily, and for those that have yet to start their blogging journey – remember that the Journey of a thousand miles begin with a single steps – Lao Tze.
Tim: Looks like you’re Pro-blogger with lots of philosophy huh? I call it patient instead of endurance :)

My Two Cents

Through the interview, I found Calvin is not so sociable person. He didn’t put any single info on his famous blog. No facebook, no twitter, no author page. But still a friendly Pro-blogger that share his thoughts with us. Big thanks for Calvin, wish you bigger success in future! ;)

If you noticed, two blogs above are not his famous blog. I can’t tell his real make money blog, because he do not want me to reveal. He want the blog to be off from radar.

I’ve email to the author of Raymond.cc and ask for a photo. He insist to remain anonymous and known as only Raymond. He prefer to be low profile. He didn’t tell the reason behind. I guess he want to avoid from being fire?

We seldom see blog has more than 35,000 RSS subscribers in Malaysia. Raymond.cc is one of them. Let’s learn from his blogging experience.

1. How long have you been blogging here?

Raymond: Been blogging for 2 years 10 months.

Tim: That means you got 1000 RSS subscribers average in one month? You should tell us more how you did that?

2. What is the biggest difference before and after enter to the blogging world?

Raymond: More and more time needed to research and write quality articles.

Tim: Me too. I can see how many effort you put on research to write those quality articles.

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?

Raymond: Never paid much attention and done much SEO. Just write original and interesting stuff. Like some people said, content is king.

Tim: Good point!

4. What topic your reader like the most?

Raymond: Actually my readers like cracking and hacking stuff, but because I am using AdSense, I had to draw a line.

Tim: I call it “Tips and Tricks” instead of cracking and hacking. :)

5. When and How many hours you use for blogging in a day?

Raymond: I normally spend at least 5 hours a day on computer. As for writing an article/blogging, it really depends on the story that I am writing. Some easy ones takes about an hour and the tough one can go up to 2-3 days. Since I have my full time job, sometimes I’d just start an article in the morning, continue with my job and only finish the article at night.

Tim: Write good quality article is not easy. Now we know your secret.

6. Any advice for people who want to be pro-blogger?

Raymond: My personal opinion is be original. Try to do something different than others. Of course you can be successful by checking other blogs and rewriting it but end of the day people would know where you got it from.

Tim: So you mean Original Quality Content is King? Got it.

My two cents

In his replied email, Raymond said he don’t consider himself as a Pro-blogger. Reason is he still got full time job. Well, as I said Pro-blogger is the name given by others. Full time job is not the reason can not be Pro-Blogger. A Pro-Blogger not necessary a full time Blogger.

LcF: I have been blogging since 2003 and start “pro” at year 2005

LcF: The amount of free time i have

Tim: Yes, time is a main factor. For me, freedom of working place is also a big advantage as a fulltime Blogger.

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?

LcF: Write the content that readers like to read

Tim: I agreed with you after follow your blog for more than a year.

4. What topic your reader like the most?

LcF: I blog mostly on tech, so tech tips and reviews are most read.

Tim: I think your make money tips is hot topic too!

5. When and How many hours you use for blogging in a day?

LcF: I normally blog in the night and I spend 3 to 4 hours per day for blogging.

Tim: No wonder very hard to meet you online. I sleep quite early. Your working hour is pretty short. :)

6. Any advice for people who want to be Pro-Blogger?

LcF: Blog for part time first and become pro only you are confident that you can make a living by blogging and like the lifestyle of a problogger.

Tim: That is what I’m practicing. Hopefully I’ll be the next fulltime Pro-Blogger! ;)

My two cents

Frankly, why I started my blog AhTim dot com? Because I was inspired by LiewCF. I don’t believe people can make money online by blogging until I found LiewCF’s blog. He is so kind to host my first web hosting and provide me guidance and help. Hopefully, one day I could enjoy the freedom of time and location of working as a fulltime Pro-Blogger too!

Today I’m glad to Interview with one of the famous blogger, Hongkiat. Hongkiat is a Web designer and developer that very pro in Graphic Design.

Hongkiat blog about Tech, Online tips, and Graphic Design stuffs. I like most of his post about Graphics Design, PhotoShop Tutorial, Wallpaper and Icon. I never seen such talented graphic design blogger like him!

Let’s see how this Pro-Blogger answer my interview question. And think what can we learn from him?

1. How long have you been blogging here?

Hongkiat: 19 months to be exact.

AhTim: Not a long time, but already have more than 4500 RSS subscribers. Cool!

2. What is the biggest difference before and after enter to the blogging world?

Hongkiat: The biggest difference is perhaps, I’m sticking in front of the computer more often.

AhTim: Hopefully blogging won’t make you wear thick glasses when you getting old. :)

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?

Hongkiat: I used a couple of methods, and they varies when I think they blog has reached a certain level. Let me just share few methods that I think for sure to gain traffics.

  • Guest blogging/ paid author on other blog – This is good, it not only increase your traffic but also the credibility. Just make sure you are writing for someone top-tier in your niche with high readership (at least someone higher than you). One more thing, write quality content.
  • Leave comments – Before you get traffic from someone, you leave an impression, more like awareness. Constructive comments help build reputation and drives people to your site. Again, you need to be the first 5 to leave comment on some high traffic blog.
  • Ping/Submit to Social Bookmarks – Submit good contents to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Reddit, Delicious. Don’t be shy asking for votes, after all if the content is good people will just love to give you a thumbs up.

AhTim: Just wondering do you accept me as guest blogger at Hongkiat.com? ;) I believe it will gain me traffics for sure. I think these proven methods, really are effective techniques to increase traffics.

4. What topic your reader like the most?

Hongkiat: Topics related to web design, web develop, digital inspirational material, soft technology and perhaps some money making tips

AhTim: I really enjoy your “Digital Inspirational Material”. Keep up your good work!

5. When and How many hours you use for blogging in a day?

Hongkiat: 2 hours/weekday, 6 hours/weekend

AhTim: This is pretty short. You are definitely have good time management skill.

6. Any advice for people who want to be Pro-Blogger?

Hongkiat: You’ll just have to believe that it will work for you (maybe someday in future) and keep on putting effort to it. Try to put that make-money-with-blog thing slightly aside and concentrate on the bigger picture, which is building a quality content blog.

AhTim: Yeah! I believe myself will become a Pro-Blogger too, one day. :)

My two cents

If you have noticed, Hongkiat is really a smart blogger that fully utilise his strength – Art Design into blogging. I think this is the main factor make his blog stand out and differentiate others. Congratulations to him the RSS subscribers has been increased from 1.5k to 4.5k within just few months! That’s great.

I believe everyone that have 3P: passion, patient and persistent will success their life! Pro-Blogger is just part of the life.

1. How long have you been blogging here?

Chris: Where is here? I blog at lots of places :) When I started blogging is a matter of some debate because it depends on your definition. When I began the “blog” word hadn’t been coined.

AhTim: Well, I admit I’m not a good questioner :) I know it was “ancient” time for blogging when you have started. At least we know you are in the field for more than 14 years!

2. What is the biggest difference before and after enter to the blogging world?

Chris: I guess I help more people and get some really nice feedback. More people know who I am, I get sent free stuff by companies, if I whine on Twitter enough I get better customer service ;)

AhTim: Oh..I see. So you really enjoy blogging for the sake of help more people, get nice feedback, free stuff and get good service.

3. What method(s) you use to increase Blog’s traffic?

Chris: Flagship Content

AhTim: For those who do not know what is Flagship content, read Diggbait, Linkbait, Flagship Content and Authority by Chris. In my understanding, its an tutorial style article that builds its own momentum and delivers targeted visitors back to you. Am I right, Chris?

4. What topic your reader like the most?

Chris: Depends on the blog. People like most what is most relevant to them.

AhTim: No wonder you have a page for Global Blogging Survey.

5. When and How many hours you use for blogging in a day?

Chris: It varies, but because blogging is not just about the writing it can be from a couple of hours to all day. I cut down weekends to a few hours though because of family.

AhTim: A healthy and balance Blogger. I do enjoy my weekends! ;)

6. Any advice for people who want to be Pro-Blogger?

Chris: Buy a copy of the ProBloggerBook.com :)

AhTim: I’ll definitely buy one copy soon. Or hope to win a copy in online contest. ;)
