Instead of blogging here, what can we do to help reduce poverty? Many events will be hold around the world in next few days. The goal is to end poverty and inequality.

What action can you take (at home) to help end poverty?

Kiva Loan Help Entrepreneurs

Kiva is a micro-lending website. It allow you to lend small amount of money to specific entrepreneur. They need the money to improve their business and hopefully lift themselves out of poverty.

You may check out their business model before lend your money. Overtime, the entrepreneur repays their loan. When you get money back, can re-lend to someone else in need. LiewCF already joined and become lender in Kiva.

World Vision Help Children

World Vision is a relief, development and advocacy organisation to help children, families and communities to overcome poverty. World Vision setup branch in most countries. You may visit the World Vision site in your country.

The “Sponsor A Child” campaign is widely spread via media. With only RM50 (~$15.20 USD) a month, you could help a child growing up in a poor country. The contribution does not given to the child directly. Instead, World Vision collect as a pool then implement long-term, community-wide plan help to overcome poverty. (Sponsor a child here if you affordable to do so)

My two cents

We should try our best to help poverty. It is a virtuous. But I believe human is not able to overcome poverty as long as greedy human rules the world. God’s Kingdom is only the hope to overcome poverty.

I wish to spread the words of awareness for the Earth’s environment. How a blogger bring the awareness of earth’s environment? What a blogger can do to help and save the earth’s environment? You might curious how can you do it? We will discuss it further when you read through.

Spread the Words

The first thing we as a blogger can do is spread the words to bring up the awareness for earth environment. I believe you have seen the movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. Although I am not totally agree with the author’s words, he did bring up the awareness of global warming. The fact is, not only global warming but also water and air polution. I believe we as human are not able to resolve this problem, but at least do not hurt the earth further.

Reduce PC Power Consumption

I know you have curious, until which extend we can save the environment. According to the facts, more than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of energy is wasted because many of us simply forget to shut down our computers when we aren’t using them. This is really a bad habit.

Do you know the CO2 emissions from just 15 computers are equivalent in energy terms to the gas consumption used by one car? (15 computers=1 car). More facts at Local Cooling.

So the next step that we can do is reduce our PC power consumption by joining the Local Cooling Projects. You can save hundreds and thousands of trees, gas, and energy by using a simple software.

1. Download Local Cooling software (~3.91MB) Only available in XP or Vista.

2. Create a free account in Local Cooling.

3. Join the “Earth Day” group

After set your power saving settings, start reduce your pc power consumption and share your results with us. You can see your power saving status by double click on the local cooling icon on taskbar. I have “0″ zero saving since I just start to use. Start from now, I will try my best to reduce my computer power consumption and remember to shutdown computer.

Mozilla is so kind to organize this charity work. Hope the money generated from the website can save some life in poor countries. I myself have contributed 100 grains of rice to them by answered 5 question correctly! How many grains have you contributed?

I have received more than 60 emails within hours! This inccident was started when Hongkiat send reminder email to Youth08 and cc to all bloggers in the list. Then many bloggers start to spam 396 blogger’s mailbox.

After few minutes, I have received email from Youth08 claimed that they were “too excited to share with bloggers” so made the mistake.

We are extremely sorry and deeply apologize for sending out the mailers without realizing that it was not in the BCC column. I guess we got over excited to share with you on the updates of the event.

Fortunately I am using Gmail, those spam conversation emails all consolidate into one email. For those bloggers that not using Gmail, their mailbox sure get spammed and mess up by the mass mail.

We have learned 2 things from this inciddent:

1. Do not ever reveal your email to non-trusted organizations or person. Your mailbox might get spam anytime.

2. Use Gmail as your webmail service provider :)

WCIT or World Congress on Information Technology often known as “Olympics of ICT”, is an event that held once every two years. WCIT is the largest-ever gathering of global leaders and decision makers on information and communications technology.

Next year, is coming to the 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2008 and claim to be a landmark ICT event that is held for the first time in Southeast Asia.

When and Where?

We are happy to know that the 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2008 will be held at KLCC (Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre) Kuala Lumpur from May 19-21, 2008 (3 days continuous event). The event is expected to draw over 2,500 participants from more than 80 countries worldwide.

Want to Join ?

If you are at least 18 years old, are energetic, a team player, keen to learn and have a pleasant personality, plus you have Free time, then you might want to expand your eye vision by joining the event as volunteer.
