Apple has just announced the long awaiting tablet device. The name change from iTablet to iSlate and finally officially announced as Apple iPad (not iPod huh). It is buzzing on the Internet these few days.
As expected, it is just a huge version of iPhone without phone call function. Of course t has bigger screen and faster processor, other than that I don’t see the reason to buy this gadget. Let’s go through the specs first:
- Processor: 1GHz Apple A4
- Display: 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit
- Capacity: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB
- Connectivity: WiFi-n, Bluetooth 2.1, UTMS/HSDPA/GSM/EDGE (optional)
- Sensor: Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor
- Others: Digital Compass, A-GPS
The iPad is featuring 1Ghz Apple processor with nearly 10-inch screen with up to 1024×768 resolutions. Other than this, I can’t find more reason to buy it. Instead, I have 10 reasons why NOT to buy iPad!
- No USB – can’t attach external hard drive and devices
- No Phone call – not a big deal, but why don’t have?
- No Camera – means no video chat, no photo snapping.
- Not run on Mac OS – can’t install daily use Mac Apps.
- No Multitasking – most concern issue for heavy software user like me.
- No flash – can’t watch Facebook video, no online games.
- No video out – can’t watch video on 32-inches LCD monitor?
- Keyboard difficult to type – iPhone user should know how hard to watch movie or surf net on the bed (hand pain). And imagine can you handle 1kg iPad (include casing) using one hand and type on keyboard one hand to surf Internet for one hour? It will break your hand!
- Low build – in storage – So sad maximum is only 64GB. I thought at least 250GB?
- No DVD/CD media – can’t read data on CD.
Of course it is still an awesome product if compare to Kindle e-book reader. Plus the battery life up to 10 hours per charge is an advantage. But it just not what we want to replace tablet PC or netbook. Perhaps in version 2 will do better?
Will you buy Apple iPad? What is the reason?

If to compare the iPad with Kindle — in some cases Kindle might be even better, as an e-reader it’s almost perfect with its e-ink screen. But on the whole the iPad offers much more opportunities than Kindle and other dedicated devices, because it’s multipurpose and with the help of various applications can do almost anything.
You’re are right about the missing features of the iPad, but today we are expecting the second iteration of it to come, and we hope it will have some of them added, for example, camera(s) and maybe even USB. And if you need Flash so much, there are many other tablets on the market nowadays, so that you can choose any configuration you like, if you don’t mind they’re not made by Apple.
